Comments

So there it is – the myth that is Stuart Sutcliffe. The man who rode on the coattails of his friendship with Lennon, went to Hamburg with the pre-fame Beatles, before giving up the stage for his true vocation in life – art. Consistently embarrassed by his bass playing, turning his back to the audience to hide his fretboard deficiencies, this is the popular unchallenged image of Stuart. Unfortunately, for a man who was destined to die tragically young at the age of twenty one, and has not been around to defend himself, the plain facts are simply untrue. It’s time to set the record straight.
